I ran across this website belonging to an Austrian guy, Paul Schmidinger, and it’s full of neat things, including some incredible Java applets. One of the coolest is Grappa, which comes in six different versions. Basically, you move your mouse around the screen and it draws grid-like lines, influenced by a kind of elastic physics. It’s hard to describe but very cool.
Some of his games are also really interesting, especially Vehicle.
You have got to check them all out.
This is a quick plug for the A1 Grand Prix, which offers close and exciting racing. The cars are all of identical specifications, and painted in the colours of their countries (each country in the series gets one car). The format is easy to understand, and the combination of identical cars and the power boost button (which provides a temporary power increase for overtaking) results in the close and exciting racing I advertised in the opening sentence. Plus, provided you’re in/from a country represented in A1, it’s not hard to find someone to support.
I recommend giving it a look even for those who don’t watch much motorsport.
If you’re an Australian who ever goes channel surfing early in the morning you would be familiar with WeatherWatch on SBS. For those of you not familiar, it was just a plain radar view of Australia with music playing in the background. Occasionally the music has been good and I’ve ‘watched’ it for a couple of minutes, but it overall it was incredibly boring.
No longer! WeatherWatch has changed, and it now shows scrolling weather reports from the whole world (strangely, providing useful information about the weather wasn’t something the old WeatherWatch was very good at) and panning shots of some nice cities. It’s a lot more interesting (you know, by early morning television standards).

I usually wear my socks inside-out because it’s more comfortable. To put it simply, sock inversion stops seam intrusion. Unfortunately, this can mean you miss out on the softer side of the material (in socks which are like that), so if the seam isn’t too prominent wearing them the regular way might be better. There’s no good reason they can’t make the socks with the seam raised away from the soft side, so I’m assuming this is some kind of conspiracy.
